I feel confident saying that there is nothing that Michael and I geek out about more than Harry Potter. I’m sure at some point in the next few days we’ll sit down together, hugging like fools, and watch the new Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 trailer frame. by. frame. Analyzing it. Loving it. Crying over it. I unfortunately just watched it for the first time by myself so I was forced to talk at my computer like a crazy person. Is my roommate home? Who knows. But if she is, god help her. Because I’m going to keep shouting “Holy shit” as I watch it roughly 25 more times and then pass out from all the excitement. PS Spoilers abound below so read with caution!
First impressions:
1. I love that the opening of this trailer mirrors the opening of the 6th movie with the flashing bulbs and completely dark grey palate.
2. I’ll say it: Dumbledore’s tomb looks ridiculous.
3. I canNOT handle watching Harry look at his parent’s grave. I’m tearing up just thinking about it. Will this be a sob fest? OH. Most definitely.
4. That music really picks up! I thought this movie was going to be more slow moving and provide a deeper character analysis. I was wrong? This trailer is making it look more flash-zoom-quick-pan than I had anticipated.
5. I refuse to look at any of the other “Harrys” than the one in the blue jacket. Oh. My. God. What character is wearing that 80s powers suit?
6. That fight between Harry and Ron is going to be really good. Rupert really stepped it up for the last movie and I’m excited to see him keep up the good work.
7. DOBBY! You gonna die.
8. And then I just think, other than the war at Hogwarts, what’s left? I mean, they cover a lot of it. How can the last movie be their patent pended 2 1/2 hours when all that’s left is Gringots and Hogwarts?
Obviously I need to a. reread the book and b. watch this trailer 24 more times. EEEEEEEeeeeee! I just love it so much!

I have to chime in here… still waiting for the whole thing to load over my massively slow internet connection (Never, NEVER get Clear(wire), no matter WHAT they tell you!!!) (Seriously.) But the first 30 seconds that have managed to load in the past half hour are glorious! I will say Scrimgeour is not really what I pictured… I’d argue the only role Bill Nighy ever should have been considered for is Nearly Headless Nick… and I’ll echo Kiki’s thoughts on Dumbledore’s tomb, although I am happy that they’re finally putting that damned island the Hogwarts Express always passes to good (albeit non-canonical) use. Those lava rocks (?) Harry’s standing on in front of the tent – did they film this shit in New Zealand? (answer: No, but I swear if you squint hard enough you can see the trio passing Frodo and Samwise along their trek.) Malfoy Manor is like they stole a picture from my brain. That is quite the Wedding-of-the-Century setup. Jesus.
Okay. I’m going to post this and maybe comment on the second half next week once this thing finally loads. But… EXCITED!!!!!!!
i trust you saw the announcement of what will be the break between the two movies? i just re-read the book, so i’m pretty much dying. i had my little freakout yesterday, so i’m coming down. UM P/S/ i absolutely have a harry potter geekout story to share with you. THIS SUNDAY HOLLA.
